for example if the height is 55 inches, divide this measurement by 7, the ideal height in inches for each step. Round to the nearest whole number to get the number of risers — in this case 8. Now divide 55 by 8 to get the actual height of the risers — in this case it's 6-7/8 inches. 55 ÷ 7 = 7.86 rounded up to 8 risers. 55 ÷ 8 = 6.875 or 6-7/8 inches. If you use the deck itself as the top riser as with this deck, subtract one step. The stair treads will be made of composite decking planks — two
1 Jan 2011 stair nuts used on a framing square can be handy for marking out risers and treads, but stringer wane and eased edges make them difficult to use accurately. Rather than struggle eyeballing the alignment, . When using synthetic decking for treads, consult the decking manufacturer's instructions - many require stringers be spaced no farther apart than 12 inches or 10 inches, and some even require spacing as close as 8 inches. Pay attention to the manufacturer's
stair treads must be at least 11" (28 cm) deep. ? Gapping between Seventrust boards on stair treads must be 1/4" - 3/8" (0.6 cm - 1 cm). ? The overhang of the stair tread is not to exceed. 1/2" (1.3 cm). * for railings that are installed directly over stair treads, the stair treads may need to be larger than 36" wide. Refer to local building code regulations for details prior to installing stairs and railings. NOTE: Seventrust rails meet all major building codes for use as a guardrail system. Local municipalities

11 May 2005 I mounted the outer stair stringers to the deck structure. It's hard to see, but there are two 2x8 blocks fastened to the "leaner" boards. I screwed these stringers to the side of these blocks. Otherwise, I could have used some metal "L" brackets to attach the stringers.
1 Sep 2013 A quick look at what it takes to make a good staircase, considering the load requirements for some of the new composite and cellular decking and fascia produ The outer two are close together to enable blocking and bolting for the railing system we will use. We install treated risers even tho you could as you use them. We use long joist hanger straps to transfer all the weight to a beam that sits directly on posts-- we do this at all three leading steps at each landing.
A deck's stairway should be planned for carefully, so that all the stair rises (the vertical height of the steps) and all the tread depths (the horizontal length of the step runs) are equal. If the bottom or top step is noticeably different in If a stairway will not be used often and the lawn is flat, a landing pad can sometimes be omitted. stair treads are the horizontal boards that If 5/4 decking or composite decking is used, they should be 12 inches or closer. be sure to check with your building
1 Jul 2011 The idea might send a lot of deck builders running, but curved stairs are nothing to be afraid of. I'll show two methods for building this kind of stair: one using a box frame, where I stack layers of joists and blocking, and the other using jacks (stringers). The first I use on low decks, the second on higher decks. Either method can be adapted to work with the treads arcing in or out. Typically, I make the treads from composite decking that I bend to the radius of the stair using
